Loved this! I remember Nicko and Snorri’s journey for how emotional and gripping it is- time for another reread

I’m with you there. I was so surprised how emotional I felt reading about them.

Nicko was always one of my favorite Septimus Heap characters growing up, and he still is. To this day, the ending of Physik makes me angst when he and Snorri get stuck 500 years in the past 😖 (Snorri is another one of my favorites as well). Seeing how he changes when he gets back to his time always makes me feel a little sad. But knowing he gets a happy ending eventually makes it better.

I love these little character explorations you’ve been doing! They’re really interesting. I really enjoy the insights we’ve been getting

Thank you! I'm'm loving getting back to them too and surprised that I discover new things about them even now ...

Reading this series for the first time as a 12 year old with older brothers had me nodding and smiling because you absolutely NAILED the complexities that older brothers have. They might tease and embarrass you one moment, but then the next they won’t hesitate to throw their whole lives on the line (even if it means having to write around their decisions haha).

Nicko has always been in my top favorite characters from Septimus Heap and I never really thought too deeply about why. But I think you hit the nail on the head with him again — he does feel super grounded and reliable, something that really makes you like him in a world where either you can’t trust a lot of people or they just don’t believe you. Love him so much!

I could never do a Heap brothers ranking but if I did…Nicko would be close to the top (don’t tell the others…)

I'm so pleased that the brothers work in a realistic way. It was a kind of wish fulfilment for me as I grew up with just the one brother and he was nothing like any of the Heaps... I can imagine that navigating life as a younger brother requires a lot of skill at times.
